It's the little things
I was reminded today about the power of the little things – small decisions, seemingly insignificant actions or inactions.
Left unchecked, decisions that move you away from your goals can quickly turn into negative habits that will overtake your life.
It’s just one more piece of chocolate, I’m only hitting the snooze button once, I’ll just skip this workout…
Before you know it, you’re no longer a person who wakes up at 5am, eats healthy, works out, completes their “Powerlist” and is a force to be reckoned with – you’ve become a person with low self esteem and low confidence who continually breaks their word to themselves and is going no where fast.
It’s a slippery slope and it will erode your self identity.
Drastic, maybe, but I know first hand how easily this can happen.
Success breeds success – and unfortunately the opposite is true as well.
Over time, the little things really do add up.
Take the Giant Sequoia tree as an example. They were said to be indestructible. Some live 3000 years in California – through fires, drought, insects, the cold, the wet seasons and the dry seasons. But a little beetle came along and somehow managed to weaken the sequoia, causing a very unexpected and pre-mature death.
It wasn’t one little beetle. It was one little beetle, over time – laying eggs, more beetles, etc. – and from the outside no one would have even know what was going on – until it was too late.
That could be true in different areas of your life as well – including your health. For some people they may not gain weight – but their insides would tell the truth about the accumulated decisions that they have made, and unfortunately they may not realize the effects until it’s too late.
What are the “beetles” in your life? What do you need to do to get yourself back on track to becoming the person you want to be?
