Learn from everyone and everything
There are gifts to be found in every situation and wisdom to be learned from every person – if you look for it.
Each book I read, each course I take, each podcast I listen to, each person I interact with – I do my best to look for what I can learn and how I can use it to my benefit.
I may not agree with everything a person says or how they show up in the world, I may not agree with every concept shared by my mentors or every idea that is written in a book. But I know that if I apply discernment, I can always learn something, even if it’s learning what not to do. Or who not to be. Or where I still need to grow.
I remember a particularly challenging work situation, where the leadership was very unconscious, our values were completely misaligned and the culture was toxic. Day after day I grew more angry, more resentful, more unconscious – eventually allowing it take a huge toll on my health and my performance.
I wish I knew then what I know now – that there was major medicine in those years for me! Huge growth opportunities. So. Many. Gifts.
It took me a while to capture all of the lessons and the gold, but once I did, I could finally see how it was happening FOR me and not TO me. The whole situation was orchestrated to serve me, so that I could grow, I could be a better human and that I could discover the Truth of who I am.
It wasn’t about them, it was about me.
It forced me to take a few steps back, look in the mirror, acknowledge the patterns and take responsibility.
I then applied the 80/20 principle, keeping the 20% which were “positive” lessons and then turning around the remaining 80% which I perceived as “negative” lessons; finding the gifts and using those experiences to my benefit.
When we look for what’s good – cause it’s all good – then you’ll find that there is so much to learn from every situation and every person. It’s all here to serve you.
