Observing the ride
Even days that aren’t what I would classify as “successful” days, are filled with great opportunity.
Moving to the position of the witness or observer – not getting caught up in what’s going on in the physical – can be very helpful.
Watching “the ride” with a loving set of eyes, like a parent who’s smiling compassionately at their toddler struggling to solve a problem or learning something new and then supports with their presence and the odd word of encouragement.
Sometimes that means I’m literally coaching or re-parenting myself. (Yes, I talk to myself!)
Today I experienced an array of emotions, and coached myself through a couple of different processes to really be able to use the upsets that I was feeling and not miss the opportunity to build circuits and come into my body.
It’s easy for me to get into my head and try to figure out “why” but as Dr. Sue teaches, it’s more important to listen to what my body is telling me and to acknowledge “where” – as in where in my body I’m feeling the upset, so I can actually work with it.
That’s where the real opportunity and growth lies – even amidst what seems like a mess.
