Quality over quantity
What I value more than anything in this world is time with my kids.
Despite the three of us living together, we don’t get a lot of time in terms of quantity – we all run very separate schedules – so I deeply appreciate having those quality moments with them.
It’s what means the most to me and what I know I’ll miss the most when we part ways later this year.
At times I’m guilty of forgetting to savour those moments – to really take them in – so I’m now making a conscious effort to just breathe in the moment so they’re held deep in my heart.
Quality time is obviously one of my Love Languages.
I adore having inspiring conversations with my son Josh – sometimes they’re super quick as we’re just passing by in the kitchen and other days we’re able to devote more time and connect on a bunch of areas. I love how he thinks, seeing his passion and watching him evolve.
Regardless of the amount of time, those moments mean so much to me.
I was so blessed today that Taylor suggested we spend some time together – I truly treasure and value my time with her. She and I are very different, so finding ways for us to connect is really important to me. We went on a beautiful walk to the park, played our first game of UNO since she was a kid and prepared our dinners together. Nothing “fancy,” but absolutely wonderful and so deeply appreciated. She has such a big heart and I love being witness to it.
The thing with being a Mom is that I don’t think having a relationship with my kids is a given as they become adults just because I carried them for 9 months. It’s not an obligation, it’s a conscious choice. And for me, it’s a privilege and a gift.
I am truly grateful to have my kids – so honoured that they picked me to be their mom – and so grateful for the moments we get to share together.
They are my greatest teachers.
To be apart of their lives – even in just small ways – is such a blessing to me and one that I don’t want to ever take for granted.
The gift of time has been one of my greatest blessings during this past year – and I am forever grateful to have spent it under the same roof with my two favourite people – Josh and Taylor. xo
