Spreading joy

I am pro-freedom and I choose not to wear a mask.

The only place where I’ve been impacted has been at Costco. Unfortunately last November they chose to revise their mask policies requiring those who are medically exempt to wear a face shield.

That’s a hard no for me. No surgical masks, no face shields.

After a roller coaster of emotions, and much breathing and prayer – a beautiful solution revealed itself.

Although I won’t be forced to wear a “proper” mask – which literally causes my body to go into panic because of how strongly I feel about it – I have chosen to have a laugh and spread some joy instead.

I go as my son’s favourite Marvel super hero, Iron Man – wearing an awesome full head mask that I borrowed from my nephew.

It’s been my saving grace – and the source of many smiles, laughs, pictures, and funny moments.

After the initial transition of getting over myself – and my ego – I roll with it and have a non-stop smile throughout my shopping experience.

The very first time I did this late last year, I was absolutely petrified. I was so in my head and so worried about what other people would think. Each time it’s gotten easier – and more fun.

What helped me the most was writing down some of the comments and reactions so I could refer to them and remind myself of the fuuny experiences and the positive feedback.

It’s my little “pre-game” pep talk.

Now, I look forward to spreading joy and seeing the funny reactions from the young and old alike.

This was such an important reframe for me and took a lot of conscious work – but in the end it was totally worth it.

I was able to go from total darkness around this situation to light and love.

I shop with the intention to spread joy and make someone’s day – and I do, every time.

That’s a win-win in my books.
