Take your mentors off of a pedestal
We are each energy beings, currently having a spiritual experience in physical form here on this beautiful planet.
And what goes along with being human is imperfection.
We are each here to learn and grow, so of course there will be much “polishing” needed – and for some, more than others.
Our mentors, teachers, gurus – whatever they are called to you – are no different.
The laws of nature apply to them too.
So instead of holding them high on a pedestal – as if they can do no wrong – give them the grace to work out what they are here to do as well.
Which means making mistakes and experiencing growing pains, just like each of us do.
I’ve been totally guilty of holding my teachers too high and then being disappointed when they don’t meet my unrealistic expectations.
I’ve realized that it’s unrealistic to hold them so high – eventually they’re going to fall off.
I think we should all be striving to be and do our best, but for me to put my expectations onto others doesn’t serve either of us.
Part of this whole “cancel culture” insanity going on these days has also made me realize how lacking we can be in grace and mercy.
Do I have to agree with everything my mentors say and do? No. And I can still learn immensely from them – including from their mistakes.
Take what works for you and leave the rest behind.
No one is perfect – and that’s part of the fun of this game of life we’re each playing together.
