The definition of insanity
We all know that the definition of insanity is doing things over and over again, expecting a different result.
And yet, as I watch people I see this behaviour continually showing up in their lives.
It shows up in my life too – it’s just easier and more fun to spot patterns with other people – knowing we’re all beautiful mirrors for each other.
If you’re not getting the result you’re after – whether that’s the health you envision, the relationships you desire, the financial wealth you want to create, etc. – perhaps it’s time to take a step back and do a self assessment?
Perhaps it’s time to get honest – to tell yourself the truth – and be willing to make changes?
Eat some of that humble pie.
If you’ve truly put in the work and effort over a reasonable period of time and you’re still not getting the result – then isn’t it possible that your approach may need some fine tuning – or even a complete overhaul?
Being so attached to the way you do things can be harming you physically, emotionally and mentally – as well as harming your relationships and your finances.
Time is so precious. Why continue to do things that aren’t effective, that aren’t getting you the desired result?
It’s just feedback. Don’t take it personally. Be humble, course correct and begin again with a new plan of action.
If you keep getting rejected in sales – perhaps it’s time to start studying some basic psychology?
If you can’t seem to lose the extra weight that’s been bothering you for years – perhaps the meal plan you’ve selected isn’t a fit for your body and you need to learn more about how your body works and redesign your plan?
If your fundraising goals aren’t being realized – perhaps you need to re-evaluate your approach and get feedback from your community?
If your business is failing – perhaps you’ve failed to listen to your customers or you’ve failed to innovate and keep up with the fast changing times?
If your relationships are crumbling – perhaps you need to practice forgiveness and mercy and open your heart more?
Fundamentally you are the common denominator and the creator of your reality. There’s always inner work to be done at a cause level in addition to the daily actions or changes to make.
Leave your pride and ego at the door.
Take things lightly.
Life is a game – so make it fun. Embody child like wonder and curiosity.
Keep re-evaluating and adjusting.
Be open. Be willing. Get curious.
Researching and learning a new approach initially requires an investment in time, but in the long run it will actually save you time – and restore your sanity.
