Why over how
I’m reading a wonderful book, called “Get off of your Sugar” by Dr. Daryl Gioffre, and one of the things I so appreciate about this book – as well as his previous book, “Get off your Acid” is that he goes deep into the why, before telling you how.
It’s not enough to just tell someone what to do, they’ll probably just shelf the information.
When we know why – and in this case, the consequences of not – it’s a real game changer.
This applies to so much in life, and I’m sure would be considered Sales 101 along with feature vs benefits.
When we understand the why, we’re more likely to take action on something because we’ve “bought” into it.
I’ve been around the whole Alkaline conversation for over 10 years, but I’ve never fully implemented it. I knew it was true for me and it totally made sense – but I wasn’t motivated enough to actually take action on it.
Similarly, if I give an instruction to my kids (even though they rarely want to hear it, lol) I will also take a minute to explain why, so there’s a greater chance that they’ll actually follow the instruction.
Likewise, when we have a strong why attached to our goals, we’re more likely to stay motivated and achieve them.
Take the time to understand the why. It’s powerful stuff and worth the extra time.
It could be the difference between a goal being achieved – or not.
